Mark Foley was a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Florida. He became infamous in 2006 after revelations were made public that Foley had a history of inappropriate electronic communications with young men who had served as Congressional pages. It was further revealed that after a few of these young men were of legal age that some of the relationships became physical.

Foley resigned from the House after Republican leadership made it clear that they would push to have him expelled from the House if he did not leave. The House seat was won a couple months later by Democrat Tim Mahoney.

The scandal became a rather unpleasant "October Surprise" for the party, especially as it became clear that the House Republican leadership was aware of Foley's behavior.
